Opanayake Divisional Cultural Centre in Rathnapura District was declared open

 

Opanayake Divisional Cultural Centre in Rathnapura District was ceremonially opened by Hon. Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Wayamba Development and Cultural Affairs Mr. Palitha Thewarapperuma on 3rd June 2016 as the 185th Cultural Centre of the Island Wide Cultural Centre Program. The government disbursed at the value of Rs. 17mn. for this Centre. 

Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Wayamba Development and Cultural Affairs Mrs. Pradeepa Serasinghe, officials and distinguishedguests werealso present for this occasion.

Opening Ceremony of Chankanai Cultural Centre in Jaffna

 

Chankanai Cultural Centre in Jaffna was opened under the patronage of Hon. Minister of Internal Affairs, Wayamba Development and Cultural Affairs Mr. S. B. Navinne recently as the 184th Cultural Centre according to the all island wide Cultural Centre program. Cost of the construction is Rs. 18mn.

The ceremony was graced by Jaffna District Parliamentarian Mr. Eswarapatham and Honorable guests, Additional Secretary Mrs. Pradeepa Serasinghe, Senior Assistant Secretary Mrs. Tharani Anoja Gamage and the officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Wayamba Development and Cultural Affairs.

The Cultural Show of Bangladesh Shilpa Shalika Academy at the Western Province Aesthetic Resort in Colombo

The Cultural Show of Bangladesh which was organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Wayamba Development and Cultural Affairs and Bangladesh High Commission in Sri Lanka as a joint venture was opened under the patronage of Hon. Minister of Internal Affairs, Wayamba Development and Cultural Affairs Mr. S.B. Navinne and with the participation of Hon. Minister of Cultural Affairs of Bangladesh Mr. Asaduzzaman Noor on 9th May 2016 at the Western Province Aesthetic Resort in Colombo 07 (NADA) in a very colorful way.

The Cultural Show featured traditional Bangladesh dances and vocals including many cultural events unique to Bangladesh.

Mr. S.M.G.N. Dharmasekara Secretary (Acting) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Wayamba Development and Cultural Affairs, Mr. Tarik Ahsan Bangladesh High Commissioner, Mrs. T.A. Gamage Senior Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Wayamba Development and Cultural Affairs , high government officials and general public were participated in this occasion.

Kalabushana State Awards Presentation Ceremony

The 31stannual Kalabushana State Awards  Ceremony 2015  organized by the Department of Cultural Affairs was held on 15thDecember 2015 at 10.00 a.m. at  “ Sri Lanka  Youth” , National Youth Services Council Maharagama under the distinguished patronage of Hon. S.B. Nawinna, Minister of Internal Affairs, North – Western Development and Cultural Affairs.

 

The Department  has taken steps to award  Kalabushana awards to 301 Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim artistes beyond the age of 60 who have rendered an inestimable  service for the art of literature of Sri Lanka with their new creations.

 

206 Sinhala artistes, 70 Tamil artistes and 25 Muslim artistes have been selected for the award of Kalabushana, covering the whole island. From among  the Sinhala artistes 59 dancing artistes, 27 from drama and performing arts, 58 from literature, 14 from art and sculpture and 10 from the field of music have been selected. 17 artistes above  the age of 80 years have been selected this time to award Kalabushana. 40 Sinhala artists from the district of Colombo and 28 Tamil artistes from the district of Jaffna have been selected. All others represented almost all the districts.

 

The Department of Cultural Affairs has taken steps to present an award, certificate and a cash prize. The selection was made by an independent Panel of Judges with the assistance of the Department of Cultural Affairs, Department of  Hindu Religious Affairs and the Department of Muslim Religious Affairs .
