Art Centre ( Kala Nikethanaya)

Objective                  :- To provide necessary physical infrastructure for Sri Lankan artists to performs study and do research through   of a Kala Nikethanaya for people who live in hill country of Sri Lanka.

Introduction :-

As there is no academy to perform study and make research on Indigenous Arts residentially, an Art Academy (Kala Nikethanaya) will be established to fulfill their long-felt need. This will benefit local and foreign artistes to improve their skills, talents tremendously. The main theme “ Kala Ketha Asweddeema” in accordance with the Mahinda Chinthana also emphasis (Mahinda Concept) to foster and flourish the fields of Arts. This academy will be established as a full-fletched academy to instill knowledge and know-how in all fields of Drama, Music Literature, Arts and Dance activities. The Theatre Hall to be established will undoubtedly, fulfill the long-felt requirements of a theatre hall to benefit the local artistes island wide.

Expected Project Output    :- 

Auditorium

       Auditorium should be a spacious one which can accommodate instruments to record  rhythm and tunes at the same time (with small rooms for tuning).

Open Air Theatre

    Main Hall       

For the purpose of sound controlling this hall should be a steady one with walls of long length, breath and height along with a good outlook and surrounding. Air conditioning and lighting facilities must be supplied. It must contain on upstairs with a balcony. Two tiring rooms should be provided in close proximity to the hall. Bathing rooms also is a necessity.

Library and Conservatory

         This should be equipped with books, documents and technological data to be read/ to be used by all schools and university students as well as by foreign and local researches.

    Halls of Training

         Halls for training especially in the field for dance, music and drama should be built/ constructed at a distance to each other.  (Beating of drums and sounds of musical instruments should not be heard by the other room which in invariability creates disturbance) Each hall of training should be comprised of the necessary musical instruments pertaining to the different subjects along with costumes and other documents and books for the relevant field of activity. For rooms set apart for dancing practice, there should be a small tiring room with long wall mirrors to watch their dancing. There should be a small stage for music and dance practice. Every halls of training must be supplied with latrines/toilets and facilities for drinking water.

 

30 Houses with a workshop

       Two families of versatile artistes who display excellence in different fields of activity will be chosen and these houses will be given to free of charge. They will have to bear the cost of electricity and water supply. A versatile artiste will be paid a monthly allowances of Rs. 7500/= promoting their creations by staying in the same premises and also for teaching traditional art to new generation of students. The period of training differs according to the different fields of training they undergo in this skilled art. Students who wish to enter training in these traditional arts will be charged with an entrance fee – which is very nominal.

Apart from this components there will be training halls, exhibit centre, research home, houses for foreigners, administration office, cafeteria, stores, public restroom.
